Healthy eating, the words on everyone’s lips
January traditionally throws up the challenge of losing those few extra Christmas pounds put on. We are too often bombarded with information on diets, nutrition, celebrity exercise routines which clouds the very simple fact that healthy nutritious eating does not have to be expensive, tasteless or even feel like a diet. Over the next few weeks we will offer some basic nutritional advice and testimonials of Personal Training clients in Shrewsbury and Shropshire who have benefited from following such programmes.
Here is an example of a great meal and left-over lunch modified from Jamie’s 15-minute meals. Approx 600 calories per portion, packed with protein, low in saturated fat and containing good complex carbohydrates. Use this as a guide and add your own choice of vegetables
Chicken Pasta & Veg (to serve 4)
1 stick of celery
2 mixed peppers
Wholewehat pasta per person 80g approx
1 chicken breast per person
3 rashers smoked bacon
half a fresh chilli
4 cloves garlic
2 sprigs rosemary
2 bay leaves
Make it in 15 minutes!
Chop all veg into small pieces and place in a pan with tbsp of oil, salt and pepper & Thyme. Stir over med heat.
Place pasta in boiling salted water and cook as per packet instructions.
Dice chicken, into pan with oil, salt, pepper. Toss regularly and cook until golden and cooked through.
Stir passata into veg and simmer.
Finely slice bacon and chili and add to chicken, add crushed garlic.
Strip rosemary sprigs and add bay leaves and drizzle balsamic vinegar.
Season sauce, drain pasta then toss with sauce. mix in chicken and bacon.
Serve and enjoy.
Balance your diet by eating small meals, plenty of fruit and veg and drinking water. It really is that simple.
